Making Tax Digital for VAT: a practical checklist

A short guide to staying MTD-ready — software, digital records, and what to check before your next VAT return.

Sample content

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT is now well established, but it still catches businesses out — especially when records live in spreadsheets or paper files that are not digitally linked.

If you are VAT-registered, HMRC expects you to keep digital records and submit returns using compatible software. That does not mean you need the most expensive package; it does mean your books need a clear digital trail from source documents through to the return.

Before your next filing, check three things: your software (or spreadsheet setup) is MTD-compatible, your sales and purchase records are complete for the period, and any bridging software is working if you still rely on spreadsheets.

At FSC Accountants we can review your current approach, whether you use Sage, Xero, FreeAgent, QuickBooks or a well-structured spreadsheet, and help you stay compliant without unnecessary complexity.

This is sample content for the website redesign and can be replaced with a real firm update.
